Vision
The city of Eindhoven is undergoing rapid growth, driven by the expansion of major tech companies in the Brainport region, such as ASML. This urban and societal transformation presents both opportunities and challenges, particularly in fostering meaningful connections within a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment. In this changing city, I envision a future where design plays a pivotal role in building and supporting communities, enriching the human experience of our neighborhoods and public spaces.
From my personal experience and observations, there is a growing desire for intimate and meaningful experiences that contrast the digital, instant gratification culture. People are increasingly drawn to analog practices such as shooting with vintage cameras, collecting vinyl records, and engaging in real-time experiences. These trends reflect a broader societal shift yearning for meaning, presence, and connection—qualities that I believe design can amplify and support.
As a designer, my vision is to create (third) spaces, products, and services that bring people together and facilitate meaningful interactions. These “third spaces” gain significance not through rigid design but by enabling organic connections and allowing communities to flourish naturally. By fostering trust and embracing the power of design, I believe we can bridge the gap between rapid urban development and the universal human need for belonging and shared experiences.
In the coming months, I will participate in the ‘Stadsmakers’ program to explore how I can contribute to the future development of the Brainport region. Through collaboration with local partners, I aim to investigate how design can support sustainable urban growth while creating opportunities for communities to thrive in a rapidly changing environment. My vision is to align technological advancements, such as Generative Artificial Intelligence, with human-centered values, ensuring that Eindhoven’s growth remains inclusive and connected.
